Can you think of a great musical representation of an epiphany?
I'm looking specifically for film score, but if you have something else that's really spot on (classical music for example), that's fine too.
Two that I can think of off the top of my head are "Kaleidoscope of Mathematics" from A Beautiful Mind (there are actually several other tracks from ABM which work, such as "Cracking the Russian Codes" and "Creating Governing Dynamics") or "The Orange Tree" from The Illusionist.
Looking for reference music for a film I'm working on. Would definitely appreciate any help. I also love listening to good music! :-)

Haha, my first thought was the Legend of Zelda 'You got an item, good for you!' song. Those four notes have a lot of power in them, and I think they are the perfect tune for an epiphany.
... But maybe not so much for a filmscore.
I'm not sure I can help you on this one, but if I think of a song, I'll be sure to let you know.

And I remember there being a lot of really good music moments in Amadeus, but I haven't watched it in a while, so I can't quite remember.

my favorite was used in 2 movies.... Plattoon (as the helicopter takes them away)and The Elephant Man (when he goes to bed laying down) It is on Plattoon soundtrack but can't remember name of it

It's not original to Platoon. I believe it's the Leonard Bernstein, NY Philharmonic recording of Samuel Barber's "Adagio For Strings," which is itself an arrangement of the adagio from Barber's String Quartet No. 1.

I was wondering if paigereader was referring to the Barber. I haven't ever watched all of Platoon, so I wasn't sure when in the movie the Adagio is played.
Speaking of the Adagio, I have a saxophone quartet of 8th graders playing it tomorrow for our local Solo & Ensemble competition. The piece is way, way above their heads, and it was an ambitious choice for them. Still, they are doing far better at it than anyone expected them to.

Well, the fact that he was writing a requiem mass, the fact that Salieri was helping him, and had become so engrossed in the music that he'd forgotten the rivalry, and then Mozart dies and the music of the requiem swells with a huge irony...

I second the White Whale on the climax of the Fountain. It's an awesome piece of music.
I think the Planet Krypton theme, the bit of Yoda's theme from Empire Strikes Back when he lifts the X-Wing, and Expecto Patronum by John Williams are all great musical moments.
I think the TV show Lost has some great moments of musical epiphany (there's a moment in season 1 where it's revealed that John Locke [spoiler if nobody's seen Lost yet] was crippled until he crashlanded on the island where the music is really powerful.
One of my favorite bits from classical is "The Gate of Kiev" from Pictures at an Exhibition (?) by Mussorgsky.
"Fanfare for the Common Man" by Copland's great.

The soundtrack to Chicken Run has quite a few good musical epiphany moments. I can't think of any specific moments, but they are there.
