Colbert in space!

Yay!

What I don't understand is why NASA went with Tranquility which was the 8th most voted name, instead of Serenity, which was second behind Colbert, and was a completely legitimate name. Boo that.

Probably because Tranquility was what they were planning to call it all along.

Yeah, I didn't get that either. I was actually under the impression that Colbert still lost to Serenity in the overall vote, just that he won the vote of the write-in candidates. I'm glad NASA was happy for the publicity he drummed up for them.

Still I was really sad to see Tranquility replace Serenity, even if it is still a nice name.

Colbert beat Serenity by 40,000 votes.

White Whale is probably right.

I got the impression that Colbert beat Serenity by 190,000 votes, that he got 230,000 (or so) and Serenity's totals was 40,000. That's the way the article you linked reads anyways.

I'm very disjointed in NASA, they had an election didn't like the result and went with they planned to do anyways.

I am very disappointed in your teachers, as tehir teachign led to your very disjointed attempts at writing in English.

Go Canada! LOL

Not an election, Blayne, a poll. One they said from the beginning they were free to disregard.

While I'm not surprised they didn't choose the number one finisher, I am a bit surprised they chose one of the "NASA-proffered" ones that definitely lost.

Hobbes, I didn't realize the link said that. They got their stats confused. Colbert did indeed beat Serenity by roughly 40,000 votes.

* Colbert: 230,539
* Serenity: 190,196

Maybe Blayne is literally *disjointed* somewhere on a NASA shuttle. It would explain a lot.

Whoever suggested Tranquility probably took advantage of the Colbert situation and pushed his agenda to all the right people.

I think all the people who voted for Serenity should launch a letter-writing campaign now... [Big Grin]
