Just recently discovered I think that Magic Missile in 4th edition can now at this point miss as they require attack rolls.

You heard it folks, Magic Missile can now MISS ITS TARGET.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

NARM! NARRRRM! NAAAAAARM!

Anyways update on my current RP Situations:

Took me a few months due to mail order screw ups by Amazon and due to 4th Edition completely displacing all of the 3.5 Edition books from Chapters but I managed to gain all of the Core Revised Edition D&D books, so Players Hand Book, Monster Manual, and the Dungeon Masters Guide, roughly 6 gigs of supplemental supplements anything else I might need, but I bought Dragon Magic, Spell Compendium, and Elder Evils for the sake of world building. As well as no less then 2 D&D Franchise dice with a lovely shade of green.

So I've been trying to get a group together to DM with only mixed success, manged to get 1 session together but only 2 of us not including me seemed into it out of 3 of us not including me. Trying again, but transportation still remains a huge headache as everyone is all spread out and getting people to commit to a once a week preferred, twice a week minimum game is more difficult then it looks.

Concordia soon, so hopefully by living Downtown I will have better access to people interested in playing and maybe get something happening.

-----------------------------------------

In the mean time I am trying to get together a Pen & Paper Play by Post game on Sakeriver to those interested, details in the thread, but relevant tidbits here, its a homebrew world of my devising in a oriental meets western setting so no limitation on whether oriental adventures handbook or the normal core stuff. I'm hoping for at least 4 players not including me, so far 1 Sakeite professed interest, one non sakite expressed interest, need 2 more!

-----------------------------------------------

Speaking of the Homebrew world, I've taken it into my head that in between programming I want to be a writer. I have 2 genres I wanna try, Sci Political Fi and High Fantasy, obviously I don't want to mix them, so I'm planning two very separate franchises, the former will be a Alternate History series based on the presumption of the Soviet Union not collapsing and in fact gaining the upper hand during the 60's, while I intend to write books starting from the beginning of World War Two from the Russian perspective of the important ahistoric characters I will want to start with a trilogy set in the late 21st century with a fictional World war three between Space-Nato and Space Warsaw pact basing it on "hard Scifi" and with plausible in universe technologies, I dislike Technobabble, especially inconsistent technobabble.

The second franchise is a D&D inspired High Fantasy based on my Homebrew world with a Dragon mythology theme to it and a little sprinkle of world travel. I'm imagining a number of ways of story telling for this, lots of ideas abound and I am already doing the brainstorming for the plot for a few introductory novels to my "main" characters of the setting. In principle there are Three Characters, by archetype, The Messiah Emperor/Warlord (Think of it in terms of Tropes, so I am actually referring to the "Messiah" just a Messiah Like character), The Gandolf/Old Wizard or rather a subversion as the character in question is quite selfishly evil but still of extreme importance, heck all three of them could be considered "Evil" if you apply 21st century moralities to them, the third character is the Principle Rebel or Well Intentioned Extremist if you will but also quite the jerkass and debatably evil.

However Evil is a loose term I'm using it in broad terms of D&D based alignment but are not 2 dimensional, it serves a guideline of what they're likely to do not necessarily what they will always do, they have their motivations, their vices, their cares but depending on your views and the scene in question some of them can come off as either quite caring and noble, or downright evil in an awe inspiring sense.

My biggest problem I foresee is naming, I already have names in mind for most of my major characters but coming up with meaningful names for many of the medium and minor characters will prove the challenge. I'm thinking I will have a short story to test the waters for one of them soonish, maybe a couple of weeks as I get a feel for writing.

My Experience with Persistent World Servers on Neverwinter Nights 2.

Necrosis: Zombie Apocalypse Survival with a heavy emphasis on roleplaying, with the but of a sledge hammer if necessary. If your the casual sort of rpg'er you'll have a hard time quick, this is not for the feint of heart, its an amazing experience with your use to hardcore dm's who do everything in their power to kill of the party forcing you to reroll characters.

Currently closed for development from the new expansion released Storm of Zehir, I hear lots of good things from Necrosis 2, as well as some bad things, in terms of metagaming (ie perma death will be even easier to come by) but better in context (people wont metagame the counter as much as before).

Baldur's Gate: If you are the casual type this server is for you, lots of people, #1 right now, and a decent number of DMs, though there seems to be a anti munchkin trends as certain classes (CodZilla) are being nerfed and some prestige classes banned outright of probably about to be banned for rather to my mind foolish and lazy reasons (Red Dragon Disciple, StormLord), Drow are available but only in the Underdark zone and no bridge between surface and UD currently exists so to get to the surface relies on DM led events. Player run guilds seem to be thriving, no crafting is implemented yet, alot of decent players, though there is a few dickish ones.

A problem I had personally comes to mind is one person objecting to me rp explaining the lack of permadeath as my character (being a epic level wizard) simply teleporting away back to my lab rping the cost as a diamond or something valuable, ie contingent teleportation when my health is -X, the guy seems to object to it on the basis of it "Not being Pen&Paper" all I can say is Lol.

---------------------------------------

More to come. Currently debating saving up for a Warhammer army, I'm liking either the Eldar or the Imperial Guard.
