Well technically it's my browser that isn't doing its' job. Since yesterday about the middle of the day in the middle of me doing work my browser stopped loading certain webpages. Well, most webpages won't load. For some reason hatrack is unaffected but www.google.com, edition.cnn.com, www.netflix don't work for example. Gmail's main page loads up but after after entering my login information it just gets stuck loading forever.
I'm expecting hatrack to also stop functioning eventually but I can't for the life of me ascertain what is causing this.
I tried clearing my cache, cookies, and authenticated sessions, but I didn't bother with history, I don't think that has anything to do with it.
Google Chrome has the same problems, however my Steam account games are unaffected.
In a possibly related note, netflix won't stream through my X-box either, it keeps saying 'playback cannot be initiated' however.

This probably isn't related, but you could try uninstalling every version of java and then get the latest version.
At our school several websites rely on java. It seems when it updates it installs a complete new version without uninstalling the older versions.
I had one computer that had around 16 instances of Java installed and none of our java related websites--either for activities, grading, time card tracking, or general websites with java stopped working.
When I uninstalled all java installs and reinstalled the latest version it cleared up.
Since Google is affected, I don't think your problem is a java issue, but I wanted to throw that out there.
EDIT: I would first check to see if your host file has been edited.

The next thing I'd try is a reset - there's usually a button that if you hold it down it will clear memory and set everything back to the default.
If that doesn't work, and the problem still seems to be centered on the router, I'd probably go get a new router. (Edit: Well, maybe I'd try updating the firmware if possible, calling the tech support line, etc.)
Don't forget to make sure you're using a software firewall if you bypass the router.
More editing: Hmm, I missed that you might be using the router wirelessly. Does that mean bypassing the router you're wired, but otherwise you're not wired? If so, that means several other things could be the culprit.
Faulty wireless adapter on your computer, for example. Have you tried going through the router wired? Restarting your computer? Checking connections for all connected parts?
Other wireless devices - including those of neighbors - could be causing interference. If you're on the default channel 6, you could try channel 1 or channel 11.
It doesn't make much sense to me that you're seeing this with some websites and not others yet bypassing the router solves the problem, although I suppose if the wireless connection is intermittent it could manifest that way (though I wouldn't expect it to *always* work on Hatrack but not other sites).
BTW, if you want to check your hosts file on windows it's at this location:
\[Windows directory]\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
You can open it in a text editor. You probably should NOT have any entries in there for common websites; if you do it might indicate malware infection. If you just have the default entry for localhost then it's fine.

I had this happen a few months ago, with Firefox. I fixed it, but more by accident than by figuring out what was wrong. I had it happen on this laptop too, but I switched to Chrome and it works fine. Better than Firefox ever did.
I scanned for malware, spamware, and spyware.....nothing.

I might be dealing with more problems than one. Right now I'm simply plugging the internet straight into my computer and yet a tiny number of websites won't load. The problem could be on their end but could somebody do me the favor of seeing if http://www.mmo-champion.com works for them? I can't get it to load up at all, and if I try to load the cached version it almost loads but not quite.

Thanks, I'm going to call up Broadweave. I couldn't find out using google if they have some sort of bandwidth penalty like Comcast used to have, but I need to find out what is going on.
edit: It looks like other broadweave customers have reported this same problem, so we'll have to see what happens. If it is my ISP though that doesn't explain why my router would make the problem even more pronounced.

My son's PC had similar issues to yours, and I also noticed then that his virus scan was not pulling updates, and then his IM quit functioning correctly. Turned out to be a nasty trojan that was quite sneaky and very hard to get rid of. Since SOME web pages would load but others wouldn't, and SOME functions would work, but others (like IM and virus updates) wouldn't, I didn't think about a trojan at first. You might consider it.
