Check out the trailer. Looks like they're actually going to do it right this time. It looks way closer to the book. I'm assuming the gent with the English accent is John Lackland.

I'm trying to figure out whether Paul Ballard suddenly showing up in ANOTHER show where people's lives are getting bizarrely toyed with is a good sign or bad.

I'm put off by the clothing. I realize that it isn't practical to have everybody naked right at first, but still.

Alessandro Juliani (sp?) played Lt. Gaeta in BSG. He's also Emil Hamilton on Smallville, and I noticed him in the Riverworld trailer.

I got mad at this series before the end, as I recall. And the ending was a huge letdown. Can they make a good movie out of a bad series of books?

Now there's a movie that does not hold up well. We'll "fix" the gay guy by getting a nurse to rape him? And it's ok to sexually harrass a coworker if she has it coming?
I just didn't find much of it funny and some of it downright gross.

True. It definitely doesn't hold up. Although it wasn't really an issue of "fixing" him from being gay, so much as fixing him from being suicidal.

The first few books were pretty good. The short stories anthologies set on Riverworld are even better.

Wait, Riverworld anthologies? I've read a Riverworld short story collection, but never an anthology. Do you happen to know any of the titles of the books?

Hm. I found a pair of anthologies on amazon, but the pages for them don't give a table of contents. Anybody know who are the authors are who contributed to them?
[Edit - Ah, okay, contents found. I'm curious about the Mike Resnick/Barry Malzberg collaboration in the first anthology, and morbidly curious about Turtledove's contribution, but nothing else looks terribly interesting. I'll have to see if I can get the first book from the library.]
