It's interesting to follow the affairs of Norway from the outside. Sometimes you feel proud, as with Magnus Carlsen's latest exploits. (I'm not saying this makes sense; I'm not any more responsible for his chess than football supporters for the victory of their team. But whatever.) And sometimes you groan and whisper the old Swedish canard, Last of the Soviet Republics. Link is in Norwegian, but the gist of it is this: Man with diabetes goes to the doctor to get a dispensation to keep his driver's license another five years. He is told he can still drive, on condition that he stop if he feels dizzy - no problem - keep sugar on hand - check - and quit smoking (!). The grounds for the last being that he is at risk of having a heart attack in the car! I suppose in some sense he is, but to make that a grounds for taking away an adult's right to drive? Someone who needs the car for his job, at that?
Ah well. Sometimes you're proud of your country, sometimes you have to be proud of the magnitude of their screwups. Let nobody say that Norway can't produce world-class health-fascism!

What, the blue thing? It's not his fault; all smokers have to wear those. But after the near-fall of the government last year they're no longer required to ring little bells and shout "Unclean, unclean" wherever they go.
