Hi all. Bit of a narrow window, and if no one has the time, I understand and that's perfectly fine. But if anyone has the time over the next 48 or so hours and would be willing, I'd love for some of Hatrack's genius minds to do a little proofreading for me.

The paper is currently 38 pages, double spaced and footnoted. I still have to clean up the ending, fix the citation information, and some other minor things, and I plan to do that in the next few hours after I finish writing an essay for another class. It will likely be 40 pages by the time I'm done with it. Just as a warning.

For the most part, all I really need is proofreading. I've been staring at this thing for weeks, and it's incredibly difficult to divorce yourself from something you've spent so much time writing and actually be able to objectively edit it. In a perfect world, I'd walk away from it for a week and then come back and edit it, but it's due in 47 hours. The information is all solid, I think the writing is probably 90% solid as well, I just need a fresh pair of eyes to spot any glaring errors I might have missed. I'm pretty burnt out from writing.

If any one can help, I would seriously appreciate it. But if no one has the time during this ever so busy time of the year, it's no biggie. Incidentally, if anyone is interested in labor history, this will be a special treat. It's a discussion on the public debate surrounding passage of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959. And yes, I actually picked the topic myself. I'm a budding labor historian.

As a disclaimer, I'm not asking anyone to do my homework for me. I've spent the last four months writing and researching this paper for a research intensive class that all history students have to take. I've put a ton of work into this thing, including several 10 hour marathon sessions over the last two weeks to organize a mountain of information that I've gathered.

If you're interested, please email me, and I'll send you the paper with a tiny blurb of explanation. Thanks all, I really appreciate any time people have to spare.

Email it to me, I've got some time this week.

Think you have my email already, but it's my forum name at gmail.

Heh. My grandfather (dad's dad) was the driving partner of one of the main founders of the Teamsters Union. He had to stop driving due to medical reasons before they unionized their area near Pittsburgh, so he isn't listed as a Teamster, but they were fighting some really unscrupolous people.

They first 3 meetings to unionize were held in my dad's basement, and their house was shot up in a rive by shooting, and firebombs were thrown at their house by anti-union employers.

So they moved their meetings to the local Roman Catholic church, and the violance tapered off, at least AT the meetings.

I will ask my dad about it, and see if he can remember the name of his dad's driving partner. I guess he was pretty famous in labor history, although I am not sure if he was nationally famous or just in Pittsburgh.

Yeah the Teamsters have a rather...colorful history. Reading accounts of how the union leadership sent goon squads to beat up their own rank-and-file members because they either wanted a free election, or just wanted the leader of their Local to file a grievance for them was pretty chilling.

I read a lot about Hoffa and Dave Beck, since the Teamsters were at the heart of the drive for reform in 58 and 59, but I don't think I'd recognize the names of any local leaders. My professor might though.

I was told he was one of the actual founders of it, nation-wide, but that was years ago and I am not sure of the veracity or the info OR the accuracy of my memory. [Smile]
