Every once in a while when the the top half (the screen) gets moved or wiggles a bit, the screen goes blank for like a half a second.
What could I do to further diagnose and/or fix this problem?
EDIT: Update - now I only notice it after long periods of inactivity. There isn't any real problem when I move the screen open/closed. It only happens when it gets booted up, or after we haven't used it for a few hours. Any other suggestions?

The problem is almost certainly the screen connector in the hinge. Unless you're fairly technical, you should send it in for repair.

Stuff gets hot, it expands. Stuff gets cold, it contracts. An intermittent problem, with symptoms that suggest a physical cause, is often the result of thermal expansion/contraction causing an intermittent open or short circuit. The fact that it happens only when you haven't used the computer in a while (when it's colder) supports this theory. If it only happened after the computer had been on for a while that would also be consistent with thermal expansion.
It could be the connector on the screen cable where this is happening, or it could be a microfracture in the cable itself.
