I don't think I posted our annual letter the past couple of years, but I really liked this one. For those bothered by such things, sorry in advance for the blatant theism.

December 2009

‘Twas the week after Christmas, near the end of December,
When the Sloans said, “Oh no! We have failed to remember!
We’ve not even started our annual letter.
The year’s almost up, so get crackin’, we’d better!
We’ll tell them how oh-nine has been such a ball
As our great God and Savior watched over us all.”
To skip January would truly be tragic –
Rehearsals had started for Carl’s Cinemagic.
Or just a month later when Michael turned forty.
Sure, Joshua turned three, but a much smaller party.
By March poor li’l Josh had been sick for so long
Docs ran a few tests but they found nothing wrong.
But shortly his health returned, just as we’d prayed.
We’d worried a lot, but no difference that made.
In April the time for Carl’s song-and-dance came,
With “Our Little Secret” and “Head in the Game.”
When we got to the end of Carl’s musical story,
We headed to see Uncle Mark and Aunt Lorie
Way up north in Coloma, and oh, what a thrill,
When we all panned for gold at the real Sutter’s Mill!
A long fun-filled weekend, and then we were gone.
And just a month later: Pre-E walk-a-thon!
Aunt Becky has run them for several years,
With laughter and love, and the shedding of tears.
But then the best news of the year? I guess, maybe.
‘Cause Michael announced that we’re having a baby!
We’re not due ‘til early two-thousand and ten,
But excited that Connie is pregnant again.

June finished 8 years for Carl. Celebration!
We partied, then started our summer vacation.
A week up in Prescott with Mom and Dad A --
Amazing the things we packed into that stay!
We saw the Grand Canyon, and watched a parade,
Saw rodeo-riders, and Milles Bornes was played.
Timmy stayed there when the rest of us went.
We picked him up after one more week he spent.
And then the kids’ swim lessons – two weeks of wet.
They’d gotten much better, but weren’t swimmers yet.
Carl went back for another nine days
To have some more good times at Dale & Jane A’s.
We then spent a week in Palm Springs with the cousins,
And aunts, uncles, grandparents – practically dozens.
The timeshare from Mom and Dad Sloan was a blessing,
And hours in the pool saw the kids’ skills progressing.
Then news we’d been waiting for ages to see –
The ultrasound showed us our baby’s a she!
The summer has ended, and it’s time for school.
Ms. Hummel is awesome, and Mrs. Stoll’s cool.
Michael helps weekly in Timothy’s class.
He’d forgot kindergarten was full of such sass!

AWANA began for our kids (and some others),
With children all learning, apart from their brothers.
Connie’s in Puggles, where 2s and 3s are.
Michael’s in Sparks, and helps out on guitar.
And then in September, a bit of a scare –
A day in the E.R., with lots of tests there.
Pneumonia that sneaked deep into Connie’s chest
Was treated with antibiotics and rest.
Carl and Timmy put running shoes on,
And enjoyed taking part in their school’s jog-a-thon.
Young Frank, their new cousin, was born to Aunt Kim,
And Dad, Carl, and Timmy all got to meet him.
Timmy’s sixth birthday was less about presents,
Or even piñatas, or hot dogs and crescents,
But rather that his friends and family were there,
With happiness, love, and some memories to share.
Mom and Dad Carlson came out from the East,
Just like the three Wise Men – so we had a feast!
Much thanks to Aunt Laura for hosting the dinner,
And to Andrew – the kids thought your plane was a winner.
The month of December had now come along,
When we tell of our Lord, celebrate Him in song.
Timmy’s class had a program, Mom and Dad went to see.
We’re so proud of our children, as pleased as can be.
CK Technologies still employs Mom,
Dad moderates forums at hatrack dot com,
We help out at church, and we serve where we can,
Just glad to be part of our Great Master’s plan.
We’re joyful for baby, she isn’t yet here,
So we’ll greet her excitedly in the new year.
And now as our two-thousand-nine’s at an end,
Merry Christmas to all, and a blessed twenty-ten!

Love, The Sloans
(Michael, Connie, Carl, Timmy, Joshua, and ???)

(Would've edited slightly, but it was about 10:30 on 12/31 when we finished, and we wanted to e-mail it before the year ended -- plus I just had nothing left. "No more rhymes now, I mean it!")

And to you, Blayne.

Tara -- Mama and I worked together making a list of things to include, but the composition was pretty much me.

Happy New Year, Mooses!

Also, glad to find another Milles Bournes fan! We adored that game as kids and it's probably a large part of why I still love board games and card games. Good choice, sir! *salutes*

Very cute! It reads well for off-the-cuff rhyming. [Wink]

I hope this year is even better than the last for you. [Smile]

Loved it, if my family ever does the annual Christmas, previous year recap, I'll definitely rhyme it.

Moose: I noticed from your letter your kids are in AWANA, and wanted to mention what a wonderful organization that is. I was in it for 6 years, and during that time I learned literally thousands of verses of scripture and it still has a profound impact on my spiritual life today. There's rarely an hour that goes by that I'm not reminded of one passage or another that I memorized when I was 7 or 8 years old. Even though I rarely remember exact words any more, the message remains.

Happy New Year! [Smile]
