Anyone else as big of a tech geek as I am? For tech geeks this is the best week of the year because of CES (unless you love everything Mac). Anyone else here following it? What has caught your eye? Any suprises?

Seriously, for anything other than commercial applications, would you actually want this thing in your home? What would the selling point even be?
"Have you ever wanted to burn your retinas from the comfort of your own home? Well, have we got the product for you!"
I think there's a point at which bigger is most definitely not better, and it's somewhere around having a 10 foot plus TV screen in your living room.

A number of rich people have mini movie theaters in their homes. This would be a great screen for one.

Lyrhawn: as the average person can't afford it, I'm not sure I see why it matters. Even a 100" television costs tens of thousands of dollars, and they don't bother announcing the prices of these gigantic ones.

It's the aspect of wanting it that I was questioning, not their actual ability to buy it. The price might come down some day to the point where an average person could buy it, like prohibitively priced 50 inch plus projection screen TVs fell in price from the 90s to now, but that's not really my point.
I recognize that they are designed for a niche market, as I have said, but I'm wondering why a regular person would even fantasize about having something so ungainly in their home.

I think you're confusing lust with rational evaluation of pros and cons
Just like many people might "want" all sorts of things -- but realize they're unlikely to have the reasonable chance to have them.

Presumably a person who would fantasize about having enough money to buy a huge TV could also fantasize about having a much bigger house and a mini theatre.
I mean if you're going to fantasize, why fantasize minimally?

I can see people fantasizing about showing it off to everyone they know. It would be considered a status symbol. It's the same reason some people drive a certain make of car instead of choosing one that is better in comfort, reliability and performance.

I don't want a pencil-thin TV. It's nifty, but I'll be glad to use the bratwurst-thin TV. (I like bratwurst more than pencils anyway.)
