I think they're doing it wrong, then. One of my hens (no bigger or heavier than the one pictured) got loose in town a few years ago, and she was way too wild to catch by hand. I caught her in a live trap meant for raccoons within a day, with just a bowl of corn as bait. In fact, I even wrote a blog post about it.
