Okay so this semester of University ended a little whiles ago but I couldn't find an apartment for May but for June so I signed the lease and its pretty good, 350$ per month for two months and its basically student housing, very very very good student housing.
You can see that yeah its good, especially since I am getting a sublet for half price essentially.
So I've been with my parents for about a month now and within a few days it will be time to move and really soon I need to send my rent money for this month, I need to go back downtown because its thus far proving difficult to find any kind of job here in Rigaud and I've been looking for about a month.
However my dad is loudly complaining (again) that I'm not ready/can't afford to move out again yet and that he can help me find a job in rigaud so I can save more money.
Anyone else see the flaw in this logic? We've already looked for jobs for a month, whats the actually probability he will actually be able to find something this short notice?
Also I already SIGNED the lease!! Sure its meant to protect me not them and yes the person in question is from Alberta and can probly afford to not have to have me paying half the rent for the months shes not living there but still I signed it and gave my word I can't back out of these things now what if I start backing out of bigger things in the future?
There's still the matter of that we don't get along well I'm a night owl I make apparantly too much noise for them, they already threatened to call the police on me 'if I don't shape up' and kick me out if there's some kind of argument between us so I already know for a fact that I can't reliably stay here.
Its not fair to have to deal with both being guilted/forced to stay and at the same time threatened to be thrown out at the drop of a dime.
Thus far I suggested the compromise, I pay the first months rent but I don't move out right away if I find local employment, just go there to get my cardkey and drop off a few things and maybe my worn for wear old laptop and then come back and work for the month if we do find employment.
Otherwise I will need to go downtown and find a dishwashing job somewhere.

You're right, you shouldn't back out of the lease (and whoever you signed the lease with will have legal recourse -- the penalties for not fulfilling the lease are probably spelled out in it).
I support your drive to be independent, and there's nothing wrong with a dishwashing job (indeed, they can be used as stepping stones -- my brother in law was a dishwasher for a while . . . at a very good restaurant, where he got the cooks to agree to teach him their recipes).

I also like the perk in really good ones where they actually feed you, my best experiance was the Viviry in Hudson where they gave me without fail a small pizza of my choice every night without fail.
Mixed success elsewhere, the Willows Inn gave me a 'discount' which sucked.
Menina's was a little better but odd... Basically the owner would get these bouts of 'being nice' and would feed everyone a meal every once in a while but otherwise the chefs werent supposed to feed you... But we kinda got around it by the chefs whenever there were leftovers would pass down the pan as normal with the expectation that HOW we got rid of the extra cooked food was up to us, yum sometimes we got really nice full pans of food like buckchoy or those italian cooked patatos thingies that kinda resembles cheese.
However I had the slight problem of where I brought my own meals which I would ask the assistant chef (really nice guy) to cook for me, and he would consistently accidentily burn it every time so we came up with the agreement of where I wouldnt have to bring food and he'ld agree to make me some pasta with his own recipee for the sauce, but I'm pretty sure that feeding your dishwashers pasta is kinda shifty...
Since its the cheapest food a restaurant can make right? Doesn't sound like they're were trying too hard.
I Miss the Viviry There are two kinds of Italians in the world, mobsters and nice people who will feed you enough food to feed a starving african village for a month in a single meal because they feel its their obligation! Meinina's was the former, Viviry the latter :grin:
And by mobsters I of course wouldn't dare suggest he was in the mafia but rather the man was just so damn intimidating that I felt he could have passed himself well off as it, which made me really effing paranoid when his girlfriend who helped out the waitresses was all touchy feely with me.

The dishwashers where I work usually get first crack at mess-ups and leftovers. My understanding is that dishwashing is the lowest paid job when compared with the difficulty/annoyance of the job itself, so they need the most bribing to keep them happy and productive. But usually throughout the evening, there are enough mistakes to keep most people happy. When I first started working there, the dishwasher was generally the only person who got a crack at extra food, otherwise it was thrown away. But that policy has become lax to the point of non-existence in the last year or two.
My best friend works at a Potbellys, where they have pretty serious rules against free food, and crack down on any breaches in the rules pretty forcefully. It's really a crap-shoot, but I think it's easier to get away with at larger restaurants that don't have quite as much of a corporate overlord looking over their shoulders.

Oh I'm not arguing against it. I've seen some pretty nefarious activity at the restaurant before. People used to steal steaks and ribs and take them home to cook. There wasn't a whole lot of "oops I messed up...better eat it now." I used to siphon off mistakes to the servers so they'd be a little more pliable when having them run food. Often my only authority as an expo comes from just plain being likable, otherwise they tend to ignore the expos. I don't have a problem with bribing so long as the food was extra anyway. But I never let servers eat their own mistakes.
Now a days we're a lot more relaxed about food though. Slipping a bowl of soup to a server, or a mozz stick, or making a sandwich for yourself isn't the crime it used to be. People only get punished now for abusing the privilege. I don't blame restaurants for having a "No freebies" policy, as it can be very easy to abuse, but I think they earn enough good will by giving out free food (assuming it's cheaper and there aren't too many employees).
