I just finished watching "Children of Earth," and was left in a funk when it became clear that there was no commitment as yet from the BBC regarding the future of the show.

Apparently, the miniseries generated sufficiently high ratings to get an approval for a fourth - full - season.

The story is here.

(WARNING - This excerpt is spoiler-free, but the article contains important plot spoilers regarding "Children of Earth" if you haven't already seen the miniseries.)

Excerpt:

quote:
A Torchwood panel headlined by Russell T. Davies and John Barrowman was the last big event of Comic-Con International this year. While it didn't pack any huge revelations, it did come with good news for fans. The show will return for a full season in 2010.

The BBC decided to make the show's third season, "Children of Earth," into a week-long miniseries event. It was a huge ratings success in the U.K. and fared well on BBC American in the U.S. So, the Beeb is giving it a longer run.

Huh. I thought for sure that the end of Children of Earth was the end of the show. Yay, more Captain Jack!

Yay!

I haven't seen Children of Earth yet, although the biggest spoiler has been all over the news thanks to RTD's interviews and I couldn't miss it. That's okay.

I start it this Thursday.

So nearly a year later, Torchwood is finally, really, officially renewed.

They're leaving beloved Cardiff for at least part of the season, but I actually am quite excited about the idea, having heard the radio play where they went to India.
Something like that would be brilliant.

And maybe if they spend less time in Wales they won't decide to kill Rhys since they can cause angst and drama by simply having Gwen elsewhere.

So pleased that they aren't leaving the series on a downer note or (a fate worse than death) moving to FOX.
