Phil Harris dies of complications from a stroke

I know he had health problems for the last couple years, and he had to leave the show temporarily because of them, but man, I thought he was better. I know he had a stroke late last month, but he was up and talking just a few days ago.

I'm sure the Harris family will be fine, they're really tight-knit, but Josh and Jake worshiped their dad. I can't imagine how they feel.

RIP Phil. You'll be missed.

I may not have always liked his opinions and attitudes, but he was great at what he did and it was inspiring to watch him make decisions and take care of the Cornelia Marie and her crew.

That sucked. I liked him a lot, and the show is among my favorites.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and his crew.

I have loved Deadliest Catch from the beginning. I don't know how many times I mentioned to my husband that the captains needed to worry more about the cigarettes, lack of sleep, and fat filled meals than the waves and cold. I will miss watching Captain Phil and feel especially bad for his two sons who obviously adored their Dad.

I love the deadliest catch and have watched nearly all of it and am very saddened by his passing, but it was ... hardly unanticipated.

Josh and Jake are probably absolutely crushed. I remember that phil had gotten out of a medically induced coma after his stroke, and something else (another stroke? Anyeurism? Heart attack) must have piled on top of that and done him in.

Well, I watched the entire run of the show up to Josh and Jake learning about their father's death. Anyone else?

I did as well, and the "After the Catch" that aired after the episode.

Well done, I thought.

I also thought it was well done. And, according to the after the catch - Phil asked the camera man to stay and film during his illness. That made me feel better about what may have been presumed as intrusiveness. I didn't realize the two were friends, in a way, but I guess it makes sense - Phil credits the camera man with saving his life during the incident with the blood clot.

Still, the way the actual "on-screen death" focused on Josh and what he was going through, and then his phone call to his brother was well handled and very touching.

Yeah, I thought the same thing Belle. I was surprised they were filming it as they did, but that makes me understand why, and makes me feel better about having it filmed.

I think they have done an excellent job in pretty much letting the story unfold the way it happened. It was painful hearing them talk about how well Phil was doing when you already knew the outcome, but I think they handled it very well
