Since I was having a little problem with my laptop shutting down when I played Star Craft 2, I decided to load it on to my desktop and play it there. I use Firefox on my desktop, and Chrome on my laptop. I rarely, if ever, use Explorer....the only reason I even have it on my computers is that the program we used in school last year required it to work properly.

I loaded SCII, but I manually loaded th code it needed, as every time I clicked on the link a WE window opened, and said it couldn't connect. So I started trying to fix the wondows connectivity issue, as I knew it wasn't a problem wiht the actual internet connection....Firefox and Chrome had no issues.

I rest the connection, I tried using the wizard that pops up....with o luck. WE cannot find a web page.

Here is the log that the wizard generated:

All the time Firefox and Chrome, and even WE on my laptop, connect with no problem at all.

Anyone have any ideas? SCII needs patches, but keep asking me over and over if I want to download it. I think because it automatically tries to use WE to connect it is freezing up.

I am downloading IE 8 and will install it in hopes of fixing this problem. Any other ideas?

Searching around, it seems the most common cause of this problem is too much/overprotective antivirus-type software. What are all the antivirus-like software you have installed?

Spybot, MalwareBytes, Windows Defender; for antivirus I use AGV!

(Avast is on the laptop, my mistake)

Also, quoting someone's suggestions from elsewhere:

quote:
Open Internet Options, Connections tab, click "Lan Settings" button,
deselect all.

I did that, fugu, and it worked. Between the updated IE8 and changing the lan settings, which for some reason were on proxy server, I can connect now.

And SCII updated. [Big Grin]
