I saw this this morning and totally forgot about it. Early afternoon, my internet connection started getting worse and worse. And then someone reminded me about this.
How long should such things last?

They can go for awhile, but if a solar storm hit hard enough to actually fritz your internet connection then it would probably fry your computer as well. I know that in the 1860s a solar storm hit hard enough that it actually had telegraphs throwing sparks etc.
