It's not official yet, but barring any unforeseen developments, the Tropical wave that is just northeast of us will be named "Tropical Storm Tomas" as of 5 pm AST. The NOAA Hurricane website says "100% chance of Tropical Cyclone Formation".

There isn't an official forecast up yet but we are expecting very heavy rainfall and strong winds within the next 12 hours or so.

It's Official Now. Luckily we aren't in the direct track of the storm, but we are anticipating winds up to 50 mph and up to 8 inches of rain.

Soon to become Hurricane Tomas, which has a not-insignificant chance of becoming a major hurricane on its romp through the Caribbean.

Interesting. I'm glad you posted this, Rabbit, because I wasn't paying attention. I watched Richard, because I had a friend who was travelling and wanted an informed opinion. But, my attention wandered away from the tropics.

Tomas is now officially a Cat 1 Hurricane. Luckily for me, it veered north. It's calm and sunny in Trinidad. I'm really hoping the northward trend doesn't continue as that would put Tomas straight through Haiti. They really don't need another disaster.
