I just can't believe they are spending countless thousands on new laptops, and are giving us Vista Basic.

Yeah, that's... weird. I didn't even know you could get Laptops with Vista preinstalled still.
Also, I'd go with the Dell.

My computer expert friends are yelling at me to say to get the Thinkpad instead as they're indestructible.
If your using the laptop for business and you cant afford to send it to the shop for a month you should go for the thinkpad.
My friends are threatemomg me with bodily harm to inform you of this! They're serious
Presumably the Vista will be overwritten by whatever windows your school board can get liscensed from Microsoft, you SHOULD be able to easily get get Windows 7 and BE SURE my friends suggest to ask for a 9 cell battery, it's a minor upgrade for a big improvement.
Basically they had someone come in for a tech demo with a think pad, threw it on the ground and jumped ontop of it several times, picked it up and it still worked.

The Latitude is a faster machine; the Thinkpad is of a higher build quality. You should get Vista off there as soon as possible, if not sooner.

Thanks! I'll go with the Thinkpad. I have a laptop of my own and a desktop, so speed it not a concern. I am just going to chain it to my media cart for Power Point presentations and check email.
I will get Vista off if I can. I may not have administrative rights to change anything myself. I will ask when I check it out if I can.
I don't believe my county is using Windows 7 anywhere yet. Every machine in the building currently has Windows XP.
