Hey guys, I'm Nick Doane. Ive been a huge fan of OSC for over a decade and have been coming to this site for years. I am an aspiring author that owes a lot of my passion and skill to reading OSC's works. I'd like to say a big thank you to him and to all of you here who make this community great.

The following is a bit of preview text from one of the short stories which I plan on putting in my collection of short stories centering on a future Dystopian society. Just figured i'd put it here first since it probably wouldnt have existed if it weren't for OSC.

So please enjoy and feel free to comment.

Brightest Future Ever (Vacation Sidestory) [PREVIEW]
By: Nick Doane

The butterflies were really churning his stomach now.
Oduron tried to contain the wiggles as he watched the calm reflective gleam of the Official Travel Voucher crawl out laboriously from the MUnicipaL TIcket (MULTI) Machine.
As a particularly forceful wave of excitement took him, Oduron reminded himself to slow his breathing. Making sure to keep his movement to a minimum, he looked sidelong around his general area.
No one was looking at him. Everyone was minding their own affairs so far, but Oduron knew that if he let his glee get the better of him things could get real ugly; especially in a Municipal Station.
So he turned his gaze back down to the MULTI Machine's dispenser drawer.
The voucher was still only about halfway done printing.
Having sneaked glances about him he knew it was safe to let his eyes brighten - as long as he did without a full smile - no one could see that. The word BEACH had become clearly visible on the voucher.
And that was what it was all for! One whole weekend in Ocean Beach! Where the sand was beneath your bare feet instead of stinging your eyes. Where the cool breeze replaced the driving storm.
This is what made it all worth it. This was the big payoff at the end of the 5-year probationary period. He was a full member of the Municipal Workforce now and he was finally able to take a breath and claim the 2-day vacation he had earned.
The words 'Has it already been five years?' attempted to form in his mind- but were quickly washed away. He had earned it. It had been at LEAST five years. He had earned it.
He came out of his thoughts with a bolt of shock.
Woah! That was close!
Oduron felt shame creep up within him. As he saw the voucher flex and begin to lazily hang down under its own weight he had - or rather - his LEGS had almost made him ACTUALLY JUMP! IMAGINE! What would the surrounding citizens have thought if he had just started to jump for joy? Right there in the middle of the Municipal Station? He would surely be thought a madman. He felt like an uncultured child. His control - even when he wasn't paying full attention - was supposed to be better than that.
The voucher was moving SO SLOWLY! It HAD to have slowed down. Anger gripped Oduron as it occurred to him that the Municipality had probably purposely made these MULTI machines print agonizingly slowly just to expose the madmen.
Well Oduron was not a madman.
He could wait.
An he'd be damned if he was going to doom himself by letting everyone there see him smile and carry-on in a Municipal Station. Even if that was how excited he truly was.
The voucher dropped.

Not bad, I kinda wonder if the Municipal Station might have camera's pointed on the press, so the guys can watch as people become full of suspence XD
