I am getting ready to buy a computer with a 600 dollar budget. It won't be used much for anything beyond iTunes and photo editing. It is not for me but for family.
A long time ago someone recommended at site that was almost as cheap as building it yourself. Does anyone remember what that site was?

If you sign up for Tigerdirect or Newegg's email deals, they will send you almost daily deals on electronics. The deals are generally very good, but Black Friday and Cyber Monday were definitely out of the ballpark awesome.

I used NCIX for my last computer. I picked the parts and paid them $50 for assembly and testing.
