Or perhaps some parts of the Middle East depending who we're sharing the watch list info with.

Is Canada so bad that not being able to leave constitutes being "screwed over"?

Yes.

Dobbie: [Big Grin]

So if I understand this correctly the leak simply put him on terrorist watch lists, but his identity as a terrorist cell infiltrator was already known?

Hasn't America have a proven track record of snatching people they think even tangentially related to terrorism?

And doobie some of us *do* like to vacation in other countries, or have business contacts in other countries.

But otherwise Canada is superior to your failure of a third world superpower.

You mean "Doesn't America have a proven..."

Also, it's so cute when Canadians are baited into pissing contests with us.

If I understand correctly, he was being paid by the Canadian government to infiltrate terrorist cells. Then presumably, the left hand wasn't talking to the right hand and pegged him as a potential terrorist to be placed on the American lists.

The leak doesn't actually put him on any list. The leak is merely showing the guy that, "Hey, it turns out you're on this list. Surprise!" and now he's going to have to ask his old supervisors what happened (and if Maher Arar is any indication, he probably won't be getting off those lists).

*shrug*

If you're done peeing, I hope you won't be disappointed if I don't unzip my own pants and participate.

What, *random*? When do we invade Mexico then?

Iran hey they're 'brown' according to this 'Americans are racist' not-so-veiled rhetoric, they've got some oil, and they're right next door. Should be excellent targets for us to be duped into a random invasion by Big Oil.

(Here's the thing to do, Blayne: get angry at other people for teasing you for saying something silly, and blame them.)

Blayne, examine your behavior. Examine the level you operate on in threads like this one or the "Lovecraft insults Republicans, that's awesome, that's awesome, hee, hee, hee...." thread. A lot of people read that and notice. A lot of lurkers or people who would never in a decade deign to hop in and want to engage you on your thoughts on conservatives or Americans or whatever.

But in a few days or in a week or in a month you're going to be on here talking about some cartoon or video game or some such, or asking for feedback on your latest idea for a ten-book series about space wars, or talking about your latest hobby, or lecturing people on military tactics you've read about or seen in a video game and some of these people are going to be perfectly willing to stop what they're doing and kick you around the dogpile for a day or two while you curse and tell everyone how bad we make your head hurt and make a spectacle of yourself.

Examine your behavior, and have the courage to change.

@Samp:

And yet, in its way, it's fascinating -- not unlike a car wreck, or watching a semi dangle from a bridge. I always picture that guy in the Godfather movie who says, "They... just... keep.... sucking me back IN!"

(or words to that effect)

Oh, well.

Well I registered in 2009 so I definitely came in very late on this. With that additional perspective, even someone so dense as I has to consider that this (trying to intervene and give advice) is a fruitless endeavor. Having decided that, the only area of interest left is the whole "train-wreck" aspect of the thing -- and that's not something I really want to indulge in.
