It would more likely be adaptive as a method of fostering independence in kids. Evolution doesn't care quiet as much what happens to parents after the kids are grown.
So the lesson is, once your kids are sick of you, nature stops caring too. . As the son of a dimentia sufferer, that I say with some sadness.

No, seriously, Orincoro -- I'm sorry you are having that experience. It's very hard to watch one's parent's age. And if you are the primary caregiver for that parent, it's really a long haul and hard walk when they have significant health issues. *hug*
