Spot on, that article is. I've always hated affirmations, except the action kind like "I can run this mile and then I can run the next". Self esteem is kind of a silly thing to 'achieve' anyway.
If we DO positive things, then we've achieved something good and the self esteem will be a natural side effect.

errr...that was odd. The Positive Power of Negative Thinking is a groundbreaking 10 year old book by Julie Norem detailing her research and theories about what she calls defensive pessimism. It's strange that they didn't at least mention that.
