Anyone else really excited about this movie? It gives off a sort of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" vibe to me. I'm really looking forward to it.
Ben Stiller stars and directs. It's essentially a remake of an old 1947 film about a man who day dreams constantly about these other versions of himself, having adventures and really living life. One day he decides to actually start living and goes on a world spanning journey.

The old Danny Kaye movie is very charming. I'm somewhat startled to hear the remake compared to ESOTSM, although I suppose I can sort of imagine it...sort of. I can't get the trailer to play at the moment.

It's not exactly the same, but it does share some key features.
1. Well known comedian doing a serious comedy 2. Lots of scenes take place inside the main character's mind, allowing for some incredible visuals 3. Primarily a love story/self-discovery
Obviously it's not the exact same, but it did remind me of the other film. What's also worth noting here is that originally the studio wanted Jim Carry for the role, and indeed he was attached to star at one point, mostly because of his work on Eternal Sunshine.

I think I'd rather have seen Carrey, but I think the movie looks pretty good now that I've seen the trailer. And I can see why you drew the comparison, definitely.

But, yeah, I watched that trailer, and all of my adoration of the original Danny Kaye/Virginia Mayo version came flooding back. I will definitely be watching this. In the theaters. Possibly even opening weekend. If it doesn't give me the warm fuzzies the original did, well, that's just an excuse to watch one of my all time favorites again.

A lot of people are complaining about how this new version can't possibly as good as the original, but to them I say, give it a chance. I haven't seen the original, so I can't speak to the quality of it, but it has been like seventy years. And like you said, if the new one sucks, you can always just go back to the original. If anything, this new version will at least bring it to a new audience, which is important for those older stories.
I'm definitely excited, just like you. I kept watching the trailer over and over. Love the music, the feel, the look, etc. Great stuff for sure. Now I just hope it doesn't let me down.

I'll definitely see the remake...but if Ben Stiller messes up this classic I'm gunna get violent. The original is SO good.
I remember it was playing on the morning of 9/11...and the Court Jester on another channel. My mom called down, "Oh my god, are you watching this?" I yelled up "I'm switching between them!"
That was actually the last time I saw either movie.
