What is going on? Why do so many good actors seem to be dying?

Philip Sermour Hoffman found dead.

I can't believe he was only 46. I thought he was at least in his mid fifties. Apparently he also had three young children, which makes this even more tragic.

I was looking forward to seeing his work in the next two Hunger Games movies, as that was awesome casting. So very sad. He was so incredibly talented. What a waste.

I first fell in love with him as an actor in The Big Lebowski. Not my favorite scene but a good one. I want to keep my links family friendly.

Oh man, I was pumped about going to watch the super bowl with a new lady friend and now you have to bring me down with this news. Talk about a buzz kill. I guess it at least gives me an easy topic of conversation since I know she liked MI3.

Because many of them are drug addicts who choose to live on the edge. I always appreciated Philip Seymour Hoffman, especially his performance in PT Anderson's 90s masterpiece "Magnolia." But I've grown inured to these sort of talented actors offing themselves with drugs. Shrug.

Yeah. My room mate came to me and said this one really hit her hard because it was such a waste of talent.

I agree.

But I'm more angry than sad. What a waste indeed, and they keep doing it to themselves.

His small role in Almost Famous was amazing.

He was absolutely incredible in Capote. Just mind-blowing.

I found the craziest thing to be that he was "Drug Free" for 23 years, until 2012.

While that certainly is possible, you do have to wonder if he really was drug free that whole time.

Doubt, Punch Drunk Love, Jack Goes Boating.

I was a fan. I feel bad for his family and his friends of which it seems he had many.

If nothing else I hope his death and tribulation can serve as a reminder to those who think they have "beat" addiction and are no longer in danger of succumbing to the dangers therein. He had everything a person could ask for, but when he gave in after fighting for so long, it wasn't enough.

He was one of my five favorite actors. His performances in The Master and Mission Impossible 3 are also amazing.
