I was rereading Xenocide (TOR 1991) and I noticed that on page 30 in my edition, in chapter 2, Valentine asks Miro for "Stories, of course. Facts I can get from the computer."
This doesn't really make sense to me, and I'm immediately inclined to think that "can" here should be replaced with "can't". I fully expect to be wrong on this note, but I can't imagine why valentine would expect to get stories from him if they could also be obtained from the computer.
Does anyone else think this is odd or in error, or am I just missing something obvious?

The distinction here is between "facts" -- like dates and names and times -- and "stories," which contain personal narratives and perceptions that won't be part of the official record. She can get the former from any databank, but wants him to supply her with the latter.

Oooh, I see. She is saying "Give me stories, I don't need facts" and not "Give me stories and facts"
Thanks for helping me clear that up.
