It was really fun reading OSC's take on this film! While I'm not quite sure I agree that it's one of the best of the year, I did enjoy it greatly, for both the satire and the earnest elements. And, of course, the voice-over/voice-acting/vocal coaching business, which I find fascinating. It's a very complex movie, which perhaps militates against it, since my biggest criticism is that it can't quite decide what it wants to do with its many difficult subjects, other than have very good actors say very good lines as they do very good acting together. It just felt a bit aimless - though I agree that if there is a center to the film, it's definitely the one about family.

The character of the father's trophy girlfriend was surprisingly moving and interesting, I was pleased to see.
