Im assuming that somehwere down the road I am going to want to submit some of my writing to a scince fiction magazine.
I think it would be helpful to actual be subscribing to some. Does anyone know of any good science fiction magazines that would be good for that purpose?

On the website writerswrite.net, there is a huge listing of periodical publications sorted by category. They have titles, short synopses, and links to their websites. The address for the category listing is:
You can look them all over and decide which will be best for you and your writing style. Although the three Nexus suggests are the best, you might have a better chance of publication, though not necessarily payment, from one of the lesser knowns. And each zine editor will have different preferences. So it's probably a good idea to be at least a little familiar with any that sound interesting to you. If it were me--and someday when I have a spare dime again it probably will be--I would probably subscribe to one of the big three, then choose one of the lesser knowns that appeals to me and my style. There is also a more detailed, albeit out of date, listing of SF&F publications in Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer's Sourcebook--a Writer's Digest book that may have a more updated version than the one in my local library (1996). But it gives much more detailed synopses of a slew of SF&F publications as well as interview bites with the editors that will be reading and accepting (or, sadly, rejecting) your work.
Good luck. I'm getting ready for that route myself.

Just a note, as this thread has come up. I noticed yesterday that Interzone (considered by many to be the best market outside the 'big 3' already mentioned) has changed hands recently.
This quite possibly means they're short on slush right now
