I'm looking for a Wise Reader to read passages, excerpts, and pieces of my novels/short stories. Any takers?
Chris
PS--I realize this is me being kinda lazy (checking on the web, after all) but no one else can do it. My brothers and sisters scoff at my dream of becoming a novelist, and my mother never takes me seriously. She just kind of smiles and nods, rolling her eyes. "Yes, Chris. You can become a writer, if you want to. Why, you can be the president, if you want to!" And here, she tries not too laugh. Well, I'll show her. I'll show them all!!
Anyway, my friends aren't interested in the same fields as I am, so they would have no basis for comparison for a critique.

If you are looking to start a small writers group. Then I may be interested. Judging from your post though, I am not 100% on this. On the other hand, if you are looking for a one-way relationship of someone who reads your stuff and comments, non expecting anything to you, then I am too busy.

ps As for being a 'wise reader,' I do feel slightly self congradulatory assuming I fit the bill . Though for the record, I read a lot, and in my school days (ahh.. the good old days) my reading comprehesion scores were always very good.

I too would be interested in starting a writers group, complete with the expectation of reading and critiquing other members' work. As I've mentioned before on this board, I'm not terribly happy with my current writers group that I started up locally, and it seems to be falling apart anyways as one of our 3 members seems to not be writing anymore. What do you say we sign up to create another small writers group here in this board?

That sounds like a great idea. I haven't been altogether happy with the group I've recently started but am hesitant to quit without another group to turn to.

I rather imagine that she means someone that understands writing well enough to see what she's trying to do and tell her how to do it.
Anyway, if you are looking for readers, try posting in the Fragments and Feedback area. Choose the best of your short stories to post from, that will garner you more readers and make them more willing to critique for you in the future (critiguing a good story is even more fun than just reading it...but critiquing a bad story is far worse--particularly since you can just stop reading if a story you're reading is really bad, and you can't really do that when critiquing).

Actually, by I was referring to the "Wise Reader" OSC speaks of in HTWSFAF...and I'm a "he".
I haven't had a whole lot of luck with writer's groups (I've tried three so far, and they've all kind of petered out) but I refuse to become a pessimist, so I'll give it a shot.

Ok I have updated my profile to include my email, but for some reason I am slightly too paranoid to put it right here. So look me up . I for one will send out the first part of a satirical SF piece I am working on right now.
