Hi everyone.
Complete newbie writer here whose finally decided to try and put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) and write the book that's been burning away in my mind for the last few years.

Not sure how far I'll get or whether i'll ever finish it. Maybe i'm taking on something too big by wanting to write a novel before even writing some shorts. But hey, we've got to have ambition right?

Speak later all.

Hey, Benskia!

A lot of people write to different lengths--maybe you're just more predisposed to write novels than shorts. It's not a big deal.

Welcome aboard!

I found myself in the same boat: never written anything, but more disposed towards the novel end of things. Then I took a creative writing class. I can write short stories now (though my creative writing teacher doesn't always like them... *evil grin*). Though now I've got a short story that I could extend into a novel and possibly even publish. That would be awesome!

In other words: don't worry about length. It's quality, not quantity that counts--no matter which direction the quantity leans in.

And that last remark almst deserves another "growing up" crack from Jeraliey...

Anyway, glad to see ya here.

Welcome! And I don't think writing a novel before you write shorts is necessarily a bad thing. Heck, I wrote a novel and a half before I started writing any shorts. Trouble is, I can't seem to get either of them published...
Maybe I should send to more than 5 people, eh?

Welcome Benskia -

I also am working on a novel, having written short stories only for writing classes. I find short stories more difficult to write than novels. I think you'll do fine at whatever you put your heart into.

Taking on something too big, eh? Yeah, I felt that way as well. After two false starts on a novel, I finally decided to try my hand at shorts. Don't fret, you'll find your niche. It just takes time. And I guarantee, you won't find friendlier help than you'll recieve here. Welcome!
