Fantasy genre. Adult themes. This is set in the Bridgetown mileu I am developing for a story cycle. It is the result of a 1-hour flash fiction challenge. Any comments would be appreciated. A few lines follow:

-------------

It wasn’t the lady’s looks that threw him off; it was her smell. Kind of musky, yes, but not like most ‘towners. After a while most folk tended to smell of Bridgetown, and you had to breathe way deep down to get their true scent, but not her. She smelled… empty.

-------------

If you wish to look at it, I will send it to you, along with the background information for Bridgetown.

Thanks in advance!

Oh, yeah, it's about 510 words.

Mike

I'm participating in a weekly flash-fiction challenge over on Scrawl. It helps me to do these challenges as I don't yet have the true self-discipline that I need to just sit down and write!

Scrawl is a very different place than Hatrack. It isn't for everyone, and I often get frustrated by all the posturing over there, but it does have some redeeming qualities. For example, Deanna (re-new member) came over from there.

My ears were burning!

Mikes right about scrawl. Lot's of posturing, very adult themes... but the crits that are given there, and the synergy that's part of that community keeps your fingers tapping the keyboard. You learn which forums to steer clear of and where you find your gold.

My experience here on this board is new. When I was part of a group here, (years ago now) it was handled through e-mail. It was very intimate in size and I gathered so much encouragment that when someone from Scrawl asked me if I knew of a sci fi writers group on the net... I pointed them here.

I still owe you a more detailed crit on this story Mike, it's a great flash BTW!

I have no idea if I'll be able to comment effectively on flash - I've never tried. But I'd love to read it.
