I would like readers to read maybe the first section (more if you want) and tell me if it's working. Non-technical readers especially: I'll be talking technical, but it's to beginners.
There's a right, basic, standard way to do things in many areas: a canon. If you want to be recognized as a saint, you have to do a lot of charity work and have miracles associated with your name. If you want to write a Star Trek episode, you have to adhere to the canon of standards already laid down in the show (Vulcans have pointy ears; that sort of thing).
If you want to be a C++ programmer, you have to write something that looks more or less like Example 1-1, below: something in "canonical form." We'll take it line by line to see what's in it.

I might be more technical than you want -- I know something of C++ -- but I'm willing to read it for style and tell you whether it gets my attention, my impressions, etc.

It sounds fun. Almost like a little story, "the adventures of a text string", or something like that. I'll try it.

I'd love to read it, sounds like fun. I know totally nothing about C++ so I can tell you if your pushing in too much tech.

as for the text I like it but I don't like text books that spend much time trying to be clever. I want to get the the meat of the subject as quickly as possible. (Not that your doing this I just need to vent at a $60 book that could have been _much_ shorter.)

That title suggestion has the merit of being pretty funny, though the humor gets more ambiguous the more you think about it.
