Last year I wrote "Adobe InDesign CS2 Basics" which is a high school and college level text book Published by Thomson Course Technology. It teaches kids how to use Adobe InDesign.

I did have to write a bunch of articles and short stories for the kids to use as sample material which was extremely fun. And I also did all of the illustrations.

E. Shane Turner (who is an accomplished instructional author) made up the end-of-lesson tests for me so he got a by line.

It pretty much works the same way as any other kind of book. You put together an outline, a writing sample and your credentials and then you send that out along with a cover letter that states why your idea is a good and sound investment.

If they like your work and your idea, they give you a contract, an editor and a timeline.
