For the life of me, I cannot find the definitive answer to this question, so am appealing to you for help! In my novel, my character uses sais. My question, is whether or not sai is the singular form of sais, and if not, how do I refer to just one of them?

Thanks!

Sai is the correct singular. Yep, and that's all I have to say about that.

Sai is the correct singular, and it is also the correct plural in most usage as well.

Dave (who has been using sai for 14 years or so)

Man, but I should've asked that question here a long time ago... Could never find a definitive answer on the web, and even a friend of mine who studies them!!!

But, you say that it's also the correct plural? I've been using sai (singular) and sais (plural). Should I change that plural and drop the s?

I think the correct plural is 'sai'. I could be wrong, but I've always heard it said that way.
