Hi everyone! Nice to meet some fellow writers.
I'm brand, spankin' new to OSC and to this site. Looks promising so far. I'm an aspiring writer, taking a few on-line courses, reading everything I can get my hands on about writing, and working on my first draft of a novel.
Noticed the blurb on the front page about a OSC Workshop/Boot Camp. Never been to a Workshop. Has anyone here ever attended one? If so, what do you feel you learned and/or came away understanding better? Would you suggest it for a beginning writer?
In general-any thoughts or ideas about where to absorb information, learn, and grow in the writing craft?

This whole forum is intended to serve as a sort of online workshop, Cheshire Kitty. It's not the same as an in-person workshop like the Boot Camp, but it is on-going and it's free.

Well, I would goto [I still keep forgeting goto is a word ]one if it cost little and seemed promising. Most things the normal ones discuss you can figure out yourself, but the better ones give you invaluable information.
And, BTW(by the way (is it, by-the-way?)), welcome to the forums.

Well, since this is sort of a discussion revolving around newcomers, I have also just registered in this writer's workshop today. I haven't yet posted anything, and with experience in the Young Writer's Workshop, I'm hoping this will be a much more mature, honest, and productive area. Just reading some of the posts here, I can infer that in this workshop, people can submit work and get honest and positive criticism which will help them, instead of demeaning them to the point where they find it is useless to continue posting anything. Here, there are no petty teenage power battles, and I am looking forward to becoming more involved in some of the discussions and writing. Any suggestions? I suppose posting some work would be a great start, but I need to first think of a piece to post, so until then, I could just start with some critiquing, and learning from the many posts here in this workshop. ----TROGGIE ^_^

Welcome, as well! Figured something was wrong the second I read " I'm hoping this will be a much more mature, honest, and productive area " and inwardly asked, honest contrasted to what . Now I am tempted to visit the other section.

Indeed a good point about the honesty part. Some works posted there are taken seriously and have really been given very good and honest critiques, while other posts are used for seemingly worthless banter having no real relevance to actually writing and posting helpful critiques.
