If you want to send out some fictional space explorers, you might as well describe the real universe.

Celesta software is supposed to allow you to see the view from all over the solar system, plus any of over 100,000 stars. The software is free.

A friend just sent me this link. I haven't used it myself yet, but I plan to this weekend.

Thanks for that info, Doc.

This seems like a good place to mention another great astronomy resource, CalSky:
http://www.calsky.com/

I used it for finding out the dates and locations of solar eclipses in the 22nd century for a story.

This is amazing! I've always wanted one of these and I've only had it a day and I have already used it in figuring something out with one of my stories! This thing is awesome. Thank you sir. I owe you.
