I was just looking for markets and found this. Very funny.

What a great way to start my morning! Even better, not one of my current WIP fit those plots. Enjoyed my chuckle

Yeah, I've read those before (I made a sub to that mag almost 2 months ago now....hmmm,..they said a month to get back, I wonder if that's good or bad.) I have never written any stories about any of those, and they made me chuckle to think how many people do. (And how many of them were Star Trek plots.)

My personal favorite was
quote:
Creative person meets a muse (either one of the nine classical Muses or a more individual muse) and interacts with them, usually by keeping them captive. Italics are added for emphasis

Though I have to admit, given recent news, that this item didn't seem very implausible at all.
quote:
In the future, the American constitutional amendment prohibiting cruel and unusual punishment has been repealed, or is interpreted very narrowly.

That's probably why they don't want it. They're just looking for sci-fi or fantasy.

Either that, or it's a plot they've seen too many times. In fact, I believe that most scifi series have done this at one point or another, including Star Trek and even my personal favorite, Babylon 5. Some of us want these harsher penalties, some of us just see the danger signs, either way, too many people are writing about them.

Heinlien did it.

I'm going with destruction of the Solar System (after the hyper-intelligent computers took over the Earth). That sort of obviates the question of whether the Constitution was repealed or not.
