I'm going to share my ignorance in hope of aiding other incompetents. And I know you're out there.
All this time I've been saving my posts as I wrote them in order to go back to reread whatever I was reponding to, or copying them to Word and whatever I wanted to quote from the pertinent thread and going back and forth, or even opening two windows to Hatrack in order to copy back and forth. And now I discover a window in the lower part of the posting screen which has its own little window to view the thread I'm working to post to.
How convenient! How neat! How stupid that I never saw it before! (I never went past the 'Submit' button before.)

Oh! I had to reply just to see how it works - took me a minute until I saw the additional scroll bar, and voila!
I've been using my back and forward buttons to go between the thread and my post...
Thanks Kolona! I'm sure I'm not the only one to say "duh" along with you. I had kind of wondered why such a nicely put-together site didn't make it easy to see the thread - and I apologize for harboring such thoughts in the deep recesses of my cobwebby brain

Since I use a 1600x1200 screen resolution, I noticed it fairly quickly after I started using the forum. I don't know that it's the best way of doing things, though; I'd prefer it if the reply box were just down at the bottom of every page.
Also, when a topic has gone to multiple pages the frame at the bottom shows you the first page of the topic, rather than the last. (You can still navigate to the second page inside the frame.)

Holy crap, that's awesome! Kolona, that's good work. Keep it up and you're going to go places, let me tell you.

This is actually quite fascinating. So many people didn't notice it? Maybe the large screen resolution helped me, like Eric.

I actually noticed it a while ago, but I felt pretty stupid when I did. I used the back/forward buttons, too, and I'd already been here for months.

I hate to sound like a smartass but I noticed it right away. I guess I am lazy and I always look for the easiest way to do things. It is kinda surprising to find that it eluded you guys for so long. Sorry!

Damn, I've been using new windows (or tabs, rather, I love mozilla...) to reply all this time! That window down there just looks like an extra copy of the site navigation if you're not paying attention!

Another point for the record: the little window is software dependedent. It does not appear with some older browsers. If your discovery of the window coincides with a browser update then you cannot fault yourself for missing it because it was impossible for you to see the window with your old browser.

Ah, and the techie in me shows itself. I use the Firefox browser, and just open my reply page in a new tab, then I can have both pages open at the same time in the same window.
