I have been with a writing group for almost a year now, and it really helped me to get motivated. We have seen some people come and go, but it has worked out pretty well.
The only advice I can give you is this. 1. Keep up with your schecule (if it is humanly possible). 2. Give honest critiques of other peoples work, don't hold back and tell it like it is (in the nicest way possible, of course). 3. Have fun!
I have found that the best benefit is, this gives you another avenue for exploring new ideas, and improving your writing. Of course with all things, it can't last forever, but it is good while it lasts.
I got letters on Sunday before I lost my internet connection. some fool *me* was cutting down trees, and the cable line got caught in the roots! I'm in the dark ages again!! AHH!!

I just got a group assignment, too. Either we're all in the same group, or Kathleen went to town on stuff this weekend...

I remember Kathleen sending a letter some time ago saying she had been bogged down with 'life' and was just getting around to some catch up. I guess she REALLY got caught up! None of you guys are on my list.

I've been in a group for the past year now, and everyone has been great about the "life happens" effect. I spent several months just auditing, so- if you get overwhelmed with your group don't feel like you have to quit completely.

In the primary letter you sent, you mentioned having to register a name on Hatrack and let you know so we can get access to a group message board. This may sound like silly question, but, do I have to register a new name for the group board or can I just use the one I already have?

You can go ahead and use the one you already have, just let me know what it is (or at least let me know you have one so I can go look it up).

Hey David. Welcome to the Hatrack boards. I really don't think you'll find it a waste of time, unless, like me, you find yourself spending too much time here.

Back to the original topic, I'd say don't get too discouraged with the down time. I think December was a bit slow, and the summer...well I didn't know if we would survive. But a couple new people and it brought it back to life.
