How many people around here are actively writing non-fiction? I'm not necessarily talking about technical stuff (i.e., papers and articles for one's colleagues), but what we might term "non-fiction for the layman." Or, to use a pejorative term, "popular non-fiction." The kind of non-fiction that Isaac Asimov wrote. Or Tom Wolfe. Or H. L. Mencken. Or Chesterton. Anything from creative-non-fiction journalism to memoirs, to reviews and essays and criticism.

If a lot of us write this kind of non-fiction, what do you think of the idea of opening a new non-fiction forum? A place where we can talk about it and, more importantly, ask for critiques.

Any thoughts, Kathleen?

Of course the great danger of this is that we don't get offended by a person's opinions. We have to make a commitment up front to "edit" a person's work, not make comments about why their artistic judgments or political views--or whatever--are incorrect.

I don't write non-fiction any more but wouldn't mind participating in some crits.

Kathleen has said that we can post non-fiction stuff in Fragments and Feedback. At least, I think I remember her saying that. I keep thinking about writing some non-fiction, but am not ready to yet.

If you want a separate area, I can see about that.

If you want to try posting some non-fiction, then go for it.
