I'm working on a story where the characters refer to each other as "sister", "champ", "doll", etc. Should these nicknames be capitalized? Examples:
bartender to protagonist: "What'll it be, Sister?" or "What'll it be, sister?"
stranger to protagonist: "Whaddya say we get outta here, doll?" or "Whaddya say we get outta here, Doll?"

If the nickname is what consistently replaces the character's name, then just treat it as a name. "Hello, Sweetiepie!"
But if it's something that applies to more than one character, say, or it's just a passing name, then don't.
The examples you cite sound as if the bartender and the stranger are likely to call all women of a certain age "sister" or "doll," in which case I would not capitalize it.
I am probably not explaining this well.
