Good evening to you all. Quick question about which editors are preferred or more reliable.
I normally use MS Word to write, however, I am finding it annoying that when I check for errors it tells me that something is incorrect when I know it is. I then open up Lotus Word and paste it all there and find that the particular error found in the other program is correct, but found other errors. Not sure if I want to run it into corel!

Of course, incorrect grammar occurs all the time in dialog. It's annoying, but the grammar checker is still worth running because occasionally it will find a legitimate mistake that you might not catch otherwise. You can always press the [ignore] button.

I would say that Word simply over does it. The spell checker is always freaking out when I write my spec-fic, and the grammar nazi is always on high alert. Just use the "ignore" option for sentences you konw are OK.

I'm a 21st century luddite. I still use WordPerfect 5.1. It doesn't mess with my text or my mind while I'm writing. It never messes up the text itself no matter how many times I save a file. For pure text composition it's the best I know of.

I use Word, and I've turned off the grammar checker. Those few mistakes it did manage to catch were not worth the annoyance, to be frank. The spell-checker, however, is useful for spotting typing mistakes.

I do run the spell checker, but usually as soon as that red line pops up I go and see what I did. My largest issue is using different keyboards and find myself hitting the wrong characters. I will have to make sure everything is read over well enough that there are not any errors that would spoil the writing.

Well, Word is the word processing program that came with my computer. Are there any others?
Somewhat more seriously...I use spell check, but am not overly fond of it. A lot of the technical cliche jargon of science fiction comes out redlined (though its listing of "spaceport" as incorrect has led me to ponder whether a space-going culture would call it a "spaceport" or a "port.") Anyway, it tells me my own name is spelled wrong---and who would know better how it was spelled, me or my computer?
Somewhat even more seriously...don't rely on the spell checker to do all your proofreading for you. Check it out yourselves. Especially if you spell, say, "bare" as "bear." Unless there's some setting I don't know about---and what I don't know about computers would fill a print library---it won't be corrected.

Oh, I've learnt not to rely on the spell-checker. But it's darn useful to have it catch a lot of errors before I start proof-reading (so much less to deal with afterwards )
