An idea for a story struck me tonight and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about french troubadours or their secret language, the "language of the birds". Or where I could find something on the subject?

Don't know about bird language, but a medieval troubador is a main character in Rosemary Sutcliff's "Knight's Fee." http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/rosemary-sutcliff/knights-fee.htm

Hiya

Troubadours are linked with spreading a lot of the gnostic gospel as they travelled the lands; they originated in the Languadoc, the land of the "heretic" Cathars. They were sadly caught up in some of the Crusades due to them being followers of the noble lords and knights. The language they sang in was a Romantic language called Ocitan which is a mixture of Arabic, French and Spanish - all of this is readily avialable for searching via the internet - just google it or check on Wikipedia!
