His web site has the story. Had a stroke two weeks ago and never woke up.

'Tis a sad thing. Hopefully his successors can keep up his ideals.

It is very sad. David Drake has a written a beautiful obituary.

Alas. I'll always remember him, because, long ago now, in the letter column September 1976 issue of Galaxy, he made me a published writer.
