I wanted to start a new topic on the subject of building an "author's platform."

From my research in writing a book proposal, it seems this is a very important step in getting your book into publication.

I am very interested in methods others are using to do this. I personally am researching holding "round table" discussions at local libraries to start the slow process of building a platform. I would any suggestions on this.

Thanks,

Charli

Also look into writing shorter versions of your concept for print as articles in, say, parenting magazines.

You have a severe disadvantage without a specialized degree or professional certification.

Perhaps consider making your project a joint venture between yourself and an ADHD specialist/counselor.

Look for ADHD support groups in your area. If there are none, start one. Better for your marketing - pretend there are none and start one anyway.

From my reading, I have come to the conclusion that the purpose of a platform is two fold. First, to establish to the publisher that the author is the correct person to write the book.

Second, it is to show the publisher that the author is someone who can promote the book. The success of the book can greatly depend upon the author's ability and willingness to successfully handle themselves in front of large audiences, ie. public speaking, etc....

Am I completely missing out on the real purpose?

Thanks,

Charli
