I know there was a discussion about a being who doesn't age being discovered via historic artifacts or something. I saw a story today about a whale that had a 100 year old weapon lodged it its back:

That's a great story. I can see that in a fantasy or sci-fi story, too. Some ancient beast with fragments of weapons from forgotten ages stuck in it. Make them noticeable when the beast first appears to display how formidable and ancient it is, or find them after the kill to begin a story investigating the past (which ties in to the present of course.)

I've been trying to train myself recently to look at things and ponder how they can be used in a story, from the strange to the everyday.
