Did You write? 06-30-08
.
It is that time of the week where you can brag about all the wonderful work you did during the week, or you can cry about your failures, or otherwise tell about your week.
I consider anything new that you write, as writing. I also consider any editing, even if it is someone else's work, as writing. Poetry is also writing. What else is writing is really up to you, but I also consider articles, blogging, writing assignments, world building if something goes on paper, E-mails if they are long and pertain to writing. Just about anything that involves a lot of words could pass as writing if that is what you consider writing.

Yes, I did write this week. I wrote in two sessions. I heavily rewrote a couple passages and got to the same point I was. what a difference that made in the story. I added only one page, 1183 words, but I likely added two more pages of writing as I completely replaced entire sections. I am excited about the next section I am coming to. The discussion with my writing partner the previous weekend made a big difference in the story. It really helped.

On the story idea front. I finished the month two ideas ahead. I wrote 32 story ideas for a 30 day month. this makes me three ideas ahead for the year. Yay!!!
For those who are interested, I wrote 62 pages of ideas, amounting to 38,555 words. that is a good month. I am proud of that output.
This past week, a good number of my story ideas never went to paper. I would comment about a thought in an E-mail, or I would think of the idea and sit and write it out. I still have 27 story ideas in my compost pile. I had 28 last week.

I am working on a bowl that looks like a swirl of leaves. I have basically finished the heavy grinding. I now have to do some fine finishing. I showed it to a workman who will do some work in my place. He held it in his hand, staring at it and said "WOW!" That is the effect I am after. Now to bring the finish up to the leave I know I can do. I like that. Wow....
I also made a wooden flower this weekend. I have half a dozen of them here at home and another dozen at work. Not one came out like I wanted, but every one is quite acceptable.

I am running out of time so won't suggest how to use anything above in a story idea. something about making use of wooden flowers has some possibilities, but no time.

I can say YES I WROTE

Did you Write?

Today, not yet but I'm about to. This week, plenty. Finished a short story, started another one, did a couple of crits and working on more.

My time this week was taken up with setting up a personal website. (See the post "An Announcement" for details if you're interested.)

But I did find time yesterday to start polishing a story out of my files...I probably won't work on it again today, but might get to it again tomorrow. Yesterday was the thirty-third anniversary of my first serious attempt to write something for market---I kept careful notes in those days, probably more than I do now---and I always celebrate the anniversary by trying to write something out.

Just to let you know,
I wrote the first story idea for July based on the wooden flowers I mentioned.
A woodworker tries to use scrap laying around for something he can sell. He starts carving flowers from cut pieces. A wizard keeps buying them as soon as they are made. years later, the wizard invites them over and shows a field of wooden flowers growing, many with multiple heads on the plants, recognizable by the exact same knots as the ones he carved.
My presentation was not spectacular, but it was fun. It was also not what I planned to write, but my evil keyboard chose to have those words appear on screen.

Reworked the whole outline for the novel I am currently working on. Had a moment of inspiration and decided to run with it. It changed quite a bit of the story, but I like it better.

Have trashed three different stories for the WOTF. Am in the early group, so something better pop up that doesn't leave me feeling like I'm sludging through the land of boredom. I've had plenty of ideas, but after I get a running start, I realize it sounds like a previous episode of the Twilight Zone or Babylon 5.

The muse has left the building. Let's hope she finds an open window and crawls back in.
