Having just gotten mine, I was hoping to find out what some of the others here felt when they got theirs. I had the interesting experience of seeing the first word of the first line as part of the notification that I had received the email: Sorry.
My immediate reaction was "Ah ****! How lucky I was to open the email and see this was merely a "Sorry we took so long to get back to you...". A moment of reading ensued, followed by a rush of elation and me immediately calling several family members.

Heh. Makes you wonder if the editors think about their hook, doesn't it?

Sure. They giggle with glee over the heart attacks they plan on causing.

First off, congrats! I think your letter is evilly delicious and I think you'll have a story to tell other aspiring writers or at your future book signings. Here's to many more acceptance letters.

My first came just before I changed jobs. I kept trying to figure out ways to bring it up to people (friends, family, random strangers, etc.)and even bought a shirt that said "I make stuff up."

Way to go!

I was elated. My friends took me out for a celebration dinner.

I was very very excited. I immediately called various people. My parents were going to take me and my other half out...but we ended up getting pizza.

My second and third ones were no less exciting.

Validation. Yep, that's what I felt. Especially because the fist place I sent the story got hammered by the editor. Called me 'amatuer' and 'unprofessional' in their rejection. It took one rewrite for me to sell it to the second place I submitted.

I had to resist the urge to send that editor a letter. I was very displeased with the treatment when I first read the rejection but upon reflection, the harsh words is exactly what I needed to hear. So instead, I submitted more material to them and eventually made a sale to that publication. That also was a validation for me.

Oh, and congrats, EP.
