I have sent a short story to a small online magazine, and within their submission guidelines it says that I will receive a confirmation letter within a week. It's been almost 3 weeks now and I still have not received my confirmation e-mail. As I understand it, the confirmation is not automated. I found no email address for inquiries on the mag's website.

What should I do? Wait? Withdraw?

This is a new one for me so I'd appreciate advice.

What's the typical response time listed on Duotrope?

If it's not along average response time, I'd wait it out. I sent one out before and got no confirmation, but received a rejection 6 weeks later.

30-40 days.

Good to know that this is not an anomaly. Thanks Wordcaster.

It's not out of line to send a query to confirm they received your submission, especially if they say that they will send you confirmation and haven't. Just be polite.

I agree with Gen. Just say something along the lines of "I just wanted to confirm that you received my short story, "___". " Maybe say the date on which you submitted, and thank them for their time.

Foste did say there was no E-mail address for inquiries but maybe try a general address... if there is one. If you still want to.

If they say they send a confirmation in a week then you should hold them to that. First off check your spam filter though, that's what I'm betting happened. If not then I'd assume that they didn't get it and send a letter through the same avenue you submitted (if it's the only way to contact them that's their fault) asking if they got it, then send it again if you wish. Personally a lack of contact information is a massive red flag.
