Dec 19, 2011 Did You Write?

I am having to make this extremely short.
The idea of this note is to give you a chance to tell about what is going on in your life, and in the process, tell about what is happening in your writing. The hope s that repeated posts of not writing or not meeting goals will force you to open something just so you can report positively next week.

I give long lists of what is writing. In essence, if you have to ask if it is writing, the answer is YES.

As for my writing, I have not had any time. I spent half of one evening looking for a grammar checker. I cannot remember what that was hammed so I cannot find it. I did run my story through another one and mostly what it found was that it did not like my character's names and did not like conversations.
In my reading editing, I got only to page 14. I expected this to be completely done by this week. Where did the time go? I ended up adding ten words to the piece. Word reduction is not a bad thing. Getting it right would even be better.

On the story idea front, I do have some bad news. In a moment of not paying attention, I selected SAVE AS rather than OPEN, and overwrote my December story ideas, including two ideas I had not posted. I was able to recover the posted story ideas and then sat and recovered the two lost story ideas since I still had the papers that they were based on and I remembered what I wrote.
The bad part was that I kept 10 story ideas at the end of the file, which were ideas I got by E-mail or something else on line, and never transferred them to paper. those ten story ideas are long gone. I do remember two were by picture prompts and know where I can look to find them, though they will take quite a long time to find. Somewhere, I know I have a copy of those ideas, but they did not show up in a couple quick searches.
Since I lost those ideas, I cannot count them. I have had a good week of coming up with ideas, but I am a couple days behind. As it is, right now I have 35 story ideas in my compost pile.

I am nearly done with my first batch of Christmas cards I painted. I have to do another batch. I have a bunch of stuff to mail off. I also need to get a bunch of things boxed and wrapped. I am exactly where I needed to be at the beginning of the month. Even so I could use another week to get prepared.

As to the question of the week,

I can say

YES, I DID WRITE
(though nothing like I was supposed to)

DID YOU WRITE?

Yay! it's here! Is it a good thing or a scary thing that I was looking forward to this thread all day?

Yes, definitely been writing. As I mentioned in the NaNo thread (yes, I know NaNo is over, but it was related), I'm totally rewriting my NaNo novel. I mean ground up, massive changes, throw out the entire first draft kind of rewriting. It's a bit frightening to be able to do that with almost no twinge of sadness, but it's for the best, both for me and for the story. Because NaNo was such a big success for me as a writer in getting down the daily grind using goals, I've committed to another 30-day write-a-thon. As I just finished NaNo a couple of weeks ago, I'm sure that means I'm a glutton for punishment, but whatever works. I started this past Thursday, the 15th, so I need to hit my goal of 75k words by January 14th. This gives me a daily pace of 2.5k. I'm already certain I can do that. Between Thursday and the end of the day on Sunday, I wrote 17k, so it's well in hand now. I missed this grind intensely in the nearly two weeks I wasn't doing it. Definitely sick, but a good kind that I'm sure many of you will understand.

And rstegman, that save as story really bites. My sympathies on the lost ideas. I've lost so many either due to insufficient clarity in what I wrote down to capture them (leading to a lot of head-scratching later and me complaining that it must have been important or I wouldn't have written it down) or making the stupid mistake of not writing it down right away and assuming I would remember it later (like I said, stupid). That one always ends with me knowing I thought of something, that it was probably awesome and is certainly gone forever. *weeps*

Yes, I did.

Continuing to press towards "The End" on BLOOD IS THICKER. Getting closer all the time.

Plus a few crits and two blog posts.

Kept at it. I'm up to about twenty-three thousand words in my latest (see earlier "did you write" threads for my opinions about it), even though things got busy at work and home (both Christmas related). Dropped back down to five hundred words a day---but managed that much each day.

I had to expend a certain amount of literary effort in the direction of writing statements for filing grievances, and I expect to do so again over the next several days. I'd tell you more, but it might involve me and this site in a libel action---even though my side would be true.

Neglected to mention that I'm, I'd say, a scene and a half from writing "The End" at the end. Though I usually just put a row of asterixes across the bottom, like this:

*************************************************

Because of my move, my writing output was sparse this past week...although the digital audio recorder got a workout.

I did manage to post a Bloggathah entry a few days ago.

S!

I am excitied
last night, It dawned on me where I could easily find the lost story idea notes.

It was not in the first place but I found them in the second. I have them back.

Ten more ideas to choose from now.
